Teacher greets the class and suggests playing the game to the learners. Teacher explains the rules for this game.

  • Game “Back to Blackboard” Rules:

One person stands back to the picture of a hobby;

Classmates should not name the hobby;

Classmates can give some associations with the hobby’s name;

Classmates can mime the hobby’s name;

Classmates can sing some lines from the songs.

  • Teacher can organize competition between two teams, when the first team mimes, the second should guess the word

  • The teacher introduces the objectives of the lesson.

Reading about Hobby (W I)

  • Teacher suggests the list of new vocabulary with their synonyms for learners.

  • (P) Learners work with new vocabulary first. They get a list of words, read the words with the teacher and write them down into their vocabularies. Learners create 3-4 sentences with new words to show the communicative understanding.

Learners that are more able help the others to read the words correctly.

  • Read the text about hobbies together with the class and stop reading before the gap filling. Teacher gives some thinking time for learners to fill in the missing words using the words from the previous task.

Hobby ( W I)

A hobby is something you like to do in your free time. Some people make something, grow plants or 1______________. Collecting things is not the only hobby people have. A lot of people do sports in their free time. Some people 2_________ traveling or gardening. Different people like doing different things.

My friend is fond of collecting dolls. She has got a very good collection and she 3____________ it. This hobby is very popular with girls.

Collecting dolls is funny but 4__________. I think it is really interesting. Her collection is 5_________. Her theme is Brats dolls. She keeps her dolls in special bags and doll's houses.

I like to play LEGO. I have built a lot of houses from LEGO blocks and I like to do it.

  • Learners managed to read the text about hobbies in groups and fill in the missing words using the words from the previous task.

Critical thinking on this lesson lies in doing reading exercise and it is based on precision, relevance, and good reasons.
